What if I have nothing left to fight for? I say, my voice shaking." Then you fight until you find something to fight for. But the moment you stop fighting the current, the moment you surrender to it, that's when you are truly lost.

About This Quote

In the movie Gladiator, Russell Crowe’s character Maximus is a Roman general who was betrayed by his own son. He is sentenced to a life of slavery on a distant island. Maximus spends years plotting his escape and devising a plan to regain his freedom. In his preparations, he teaches himself how to fight, even though he knows no one will ever fight for him.

In the end, Maximus confronts his son and kills him in a final battle for freedom. In the movie, Maximus’s last words are: “What if I have nothing left to fight for? I say, my voice shaking. Then you fight until you find something to fight for.

But the moment you stop fighting the current, the moment you surrender to it, that’s when you are truly lost!”
